Created to ponder

All mankind will fear; they will proclaim the works of God and ponder what he has done. Psalm 64:9

As a young child, I was a daydreamer. I loved going to that place of "just thinking". God created me to ponder. I think He created us all that way.

The original word for ponder envelopes the thought of "weighing mentally". Pondering includes being amazed at what we see and experience while recognizing God as the Author and Creator. But for me, pondering also includes looking for God in the midst of the difficult situations and circumstances in life. I know He is there. But sometimes, it takes pondering to find Him. And that means weighing mentally what I know about Him. I know God is good, wise, sovereign and just. He promises to never leave us. So He is there! And where God is, I will find goodness and wisdom and a divine plan and justice.

The thing about pondering is that I am often filled with questions. Why? How? The thing about God is that I can ask those questions of Him. To some of my questions come quick answers. To others, it may be weeks or months or years before I get the answer. God is quick to remind me of the question that was asked as He finally provides the answer. And then there are those questions that I recognize I will probably not get answers until I stand in front of Him, face to face. That's ok. I can wait. And continue to ponder!
